Spring Fashion Guide

Written by Tori Ward, Marketing/PR Assistant

When April rolls around in Louisiana, it's typically time to break out the shorts and sandals. The temperatures start to rise pretty quick in the South, but that just means we get to showcase our spring wardrobes earlier than everyone else.

Spring fashion is known for lightweight fabrics, bright colors, and fun prints. However, each year brings it's own unique trends for men's and women's fashion. We teamed up with three local Ruston shops, Patton's Downtown, Beau Monde Boutique, and Rodéo Boutique, to bring you a guide to this year's spring styles!

For the Gentlemen

This spring, it's all about comfort and functionality for the guys. Shades of blue are big this spring, as well as gingham and plaid. For a dressier look, pair some navy Columbia shorts with a Fish Shippie gingham button-down shirt and a pair of brown, leather loafers.

If you're looking for a more casual look to wear for a day outdoors, pair a neutral, lightweight Columbia PFG shirt with a pair of blue PFG shorts. Don't forget a mesh-back Columbia hat to finish the look. Also, be sure to grab your ENO hammock and enjoy the nice, spring weather!

For the Ladies
We're seeing a ton of fun trends in women's fashion this season!
"This spring and summer is all about retro throw backs," says Katie Bonnette, owner of Rodéo Boutique in Downtown Ruston.

Don't be surprised if you see some styles that look like they are straight out of the 70's with a distinct boho vibe. Flare jeans, flowy tops and dresses, and wrap necklaces are all big trends this season. Another fun spring/summer trend is lace-up shoes, which put a funky twist on the traditional sandal.

Two-piece sets are all the rage right now for ladies of all ages. The great thing about sets it that they can go from day to night with a wedge and the right accessories! You can also mix and match the top and bottoms with other pieces to create additional fun, spring looks.

"I love all the colors of spring," said Whitney Hovey, owner of Beau Monde Boutique. You'll definitely see bright colors, florals, and pastels everywhere this season.

If you're looking for a dressier, "night out on then town" look, try a fitted dress or romper paired with stylish accessories. Variations of the halter neckline are also in style right now, especially for dressier pieces.

"Springtime clothes should be easy, comfortable and cool," said Cat and Kristen, sales associates at Patton's Downtown.

If you're looking for ultimate comfort, check out Lauren James' line of t-shirts and "shorties." Also, don't forget to add a hat for a pop of color and a pair of super-comfy Birkenstock sandals, which are also a big spring trend.
